During a Commander-in-Chief Forum earlier this month, US presidential candidates – Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump – both cited recent findings that 20 veterans commit suicide each day. The welfare of veterans is increasingly a topic of global interest as reported rates of PTSD and other health issues reach endemic levels, both in the US and other countries like Australia.

Widespread calls to provide better care for the returned soldiers confirms the need for charities like ‘Blue Star Families’ and new tools like Veterans Call. ‘Blue Star Families’ is a leading veterans affairs charity in the US with a vast public reach through partners like Facebook, Uber, Disney, The Clinton Foundation and McDonald’s. It’s also the latest charity to get on board the micro-donations app Veterans Call.

The mobile phone app, created by Activistic Limited (ASX:ACU), enables philanthropies to re-engage their donor bases through a monthly recurring revenue channel. Downloads of Veterans Call reached 110,000 in July, around the time well-known veteran and philanthropist J.W. Cortes threw support behind it, using his social media presence to reach over 18 million people.

“Veterans Call has become a hub for the top philanthropies in the veterans’ sector to communicate with and cultivate a vibrant, engaged donor base,” Activistic’s Vice President of North America, Dylan Breslin-Barnhart said.

“Our partnership with Blue Star Families is representative of the continued success of that mission, and we are thrilled to be working with their team to drive results.”

Blue Star Families aims to bridge the gap between military family communities and the general public by providing free resources, services and opportunities to make life more sustainable for military families. The Veterans Call platform will allow their supporters to donate without supplying credit card details or bank information, as well as provide an efficient way of promoting their events, news and campaigns.

This is a new partnership and investors should give it time to breathe, whilst considering all company information before making an investment decision. Professional financial advice should also be sought.

“We are truly excited about our new partnership with Veterans Call and look forward to achieving great results together to support our military families,” Penny Bolden, Senior Advisor for Strategic Partnerships at Blue Star Families, said.

According to Activistic’s latest announcement, the option to donate to Blue Star Families through Veterans Call should be available within the next 2-3 weeks, with a reported 85 percent of all donated amounts going directly to the charity.
