International Petroleum (IP) Week 2016 to be held in February and organised by the Energy Institute (EI), will be the first major international oil and gas conference held after the UN Climate Change Conference (COP21).

The conference brings together captains of industry from across the globe to discuss ‘Energy in a carbon constrained world’.

The keynote address will be delivered by Bob Dudley, Group Chief Executive, BP.

Mr Dudley will open the event with a presentation to consider how the industry should respond to climate change challenges. Over the four years that he has been Group Chief Executive, he has changed the way in which the group operates and focused its delivery on value not volume.

The February conference comes a year after oil prices began to tumble.

Louise Kingham OBE FEI, EI Chief Executive, says, ‘IP Week 2016 takes place just over a year since the start of falling oil prices, and weeks after COP21. The energy sector faces an exceptional set of challenges going forward.”

In an interview in 2013, Ms Kingham explained that it is not only industry that is affected but the consumer as well and industry must do it all it can to properly communicate its challenges.

Moving forward as the world tackles climate change issues, the EI’s Energy Barometer 2015 survey reported out that over 60% of EI members are not confident that a binding agreement from COP21 will be sufficient to keep global temperature increases below 2°C.

IP Week conference speakers will review the outcomes of COP21, the challenges and opportunities they will present for the industry, and what the sector needs to do to help meet the long-term climate change targets and contribute to a more sustainable economy.

IP Week is the EI’s flagship oil and gas forum. It is a global event that attracts more than 2000 delegates every year and will be held 9–11 February 2016 in London.
